Digging Into Oregon History with The Chinese Diaspora Project

The Oregon Chinese Diaspora Project is an award-winning multi agency collaboration that spans the state. Using community archeology and public history, the project has investigated railroad and mining camps, Chinatowns, and more. This talk will showcase our summer findings, which include investigations into the lives of Chinese American cowboys, early gold camps, and Pendleton’s vibrant Chinese community.

Chelsea Rose is the director of SOULA and a historical archaeologist who focuses on the settlement and development of the American West. Chelsea regularly works with the media, students, and community volunteers in an effort to promote archaeological awareness and encourage historical stewardship.
