Community Thrift Shop Manager
Job Description:
The Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Community Thrift Shop, the income from which is used for funding programming at the Umatilla County Historical Society (UCHS).
Reports to: UCHS Executive Director.
Works with: UCHS Executive Director and, occasionally, with directors / managers of local social service organizations.
Supervises: Store staff and volunteers with wide-ranging responsibilities; occasional placements from local social service organizations (CAPECO / BMCC Jobs Plus).
Responsibilities include:
- Store operation (volunteer attendants, donation processing, merchandising, sales, inventory control).
- Store scheduling (opening and closing facility, volunteer staffing).
- Development and management of the Community Thrift Shop volunteer program (recruitment, placement, training, scheduling, supervision).
- Maintaining relationships with community: volunteers, customers, contributors, social service organizations.
- Developing promotions that move donated items rapidly through the merchandising process.
- Development of efficient structure for organizing donations by season and by saleable / non-saleable categories.
- Prepping of donated items for sale (may include steaming, sewing).
- Developing window displays to promote some of the best and most valuable merchandise.
- Cleaning and keeping up appeal of store; bring maintenance issues to the attention of UCHS Executive Director.
- Understanding the goals of the Umatilla County Historical Society and the role of the Community Thrift Shop in promoting those goals.
Job Qualifications & Requirements:
- Management experience
- Previous retail experience
- Merchandising skills
- Strong verbal communications skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated ability to work well with the public.
- Willingness and ability to develop long-term relationships with CTS volunteers and potential volunteers.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. of furniture or boxes.
- Frequent bending, stretching, and standing.
Hours of Operation:
The store is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM.
The manager works up to 40 hours per week. Schedule may vary and some holidays will be required.
Compensation
This is an hourly position/ salary DOE.
The position is open until filled.
